Even More New Tapestries!

Here are some highlights of our new Pansu collection.  The weaving of these tapestries is very tight, making the details of each piece very clear.  They are all beautiful, but there are some exceptionally lovely ones.

This beautiful rendition of Duc de Berry (The Duke of Berry) depicts the month of May and his romance with a maiden.  The Duc de Berry tapestry collection represents the 12 months of the year and his various activities during those months.  This piece is very colorful and is a lovely take on the classic design.

The Provence wall tapestry makes such a happy addition to your home decor.  The bright, friendly Sunflowers stretch as far as the eye can see.  The peaks of Saint Victoire mountain rise in the background to give the impression of great distance.  It is a wonderful wall hanging to display anywhere.

We are excited to say that we have a new version of Repos de la Licorne from the Pansu mill.  It is stunning in its intricacy!  Another beautiful new version of a classic.  This tapestry begs to be hung in almost any decor!

Check back frequently, as we continue to add new tapestries from the Pansu mill.  Thanks for shopping at The Tapestry Standard!

More New Tapestries

So, as promised, there are more new tapestries to show off!  This new mill has gorgeous wall art.

If you want some old fashioned romance in your home decor, check out the Au Bord de la Fontaine wall tapestry.  This old style Pastorale tapestry is overflowing with sweet sentiments and beautiful colors.  Definitely a pick-me-up for your living room.

If you like medieval style tapestries, I have a treat for you.  This classic unicorn tapestry has been redone in a slightly more contemporary style.  The Lady and the Organ is part of the Lady and the Unicorn series.  This particular design focuses on the lady as she plays the organ.  The unique blocking style of this piece makes for a dramatic addition to your wall decor.

This next tapestry is stunning not only for its exquisite design, but also due to the colors present.  This Acanthus tapestry is done in the William Morris style, which can be seen in the swirling leaves and fleur pattern.  It is stunning in just about any setting you can come up with and is just a joy to own.

Look for more new tapestry updates as more are added every day!

A Whole New Respect for the Fabric Arts

I was visiting our mill this weekend, and I got to see just how complicated looms are.  I witnessed the setup of a loom for a single tapestry size and design.  I only saw them finishing it up – they had been working on it for days.  Days!  No wonder custom tapestry work is so darned expensive.  Just setting up the weft for one color took hours.  I couldn’t believe it.  Seeing all the work go into the setup, before a single weave was woven…it gave me a whole new respect for weaving and all other fabric arts.

I was so fascinated by the whole process, that I did some research when I got home.  The loom they were using is probably the most modern and it still took days to set up.  It got me to thinking about the more “archaic” loom styles that are still used today.  I mean, let’s consider the Jacquard loom.  This style of loom is still widely used today because it can make extremely intricate designs – perfect for wall tapestries.  But, these looms can take up to three weeks to rethread for a new design.  Weeks!  Most Jacquard looms are set up for one design, one size, one time only.  Those looms can be used over and over again to create the same design, but that’s about it.

So, when you look at a tapestry, or are shopping for one you know one thing for sure…it took days to set up the loom to weave that tapestry.  Just imagine how long it took to set up the loom for these unicorn tapestries
